Topic: Synthesis of novel boron carriers for boron neutron capture therapy of cancer

Description: The research of boron compounds aims to develop new compounds for the treatment of brain cancer. The project contains syntheses with three or more steps, basic and advanced purification methods, and basic and advanced nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques.

Eligibility requirements: The applicant should have previous experience in organic synthesis and/or NMR.

Topic: Synthesis of soluble prodrugs for cancer treatment

Description:  The research of soluble prodrugs of commercially available anticancer drugs aims to develop new compounds with improved oral bioavailability. The project contains syntheses with three or more steps, basic and advanced purification methods, and basic and advanced NMR techniques.

Topic: Synthesis of coumarin derivatives for treatment of neuropathic pain

Description: The research in synthesis of coumarin derivatives aims to discovery new series of compounds targeting the TRPA1-ion channel. The project collaborates with the Sirtuin Research Group in University of Eastern Finland and School of Medicine in Tampere University and contains short syntheses with 1-3 steps, simple NMR techniques, and basic purification methods.

Eligibility requirements: The applicant should have basic knowledge of organic chemistry and laboratory experience. Previous experience in organic synthesis is considered a plus, but not required.

Topic: Lead optimization of coumarin derivatives for treatment of neuropathic pain

Description: The research in lead optimization of coumarins derivatives aims to find new series of compounds targeting the TRPA1-ion channel. The project collaborates with the School of Medicine in Tampere University and contains computational lead optimization. In addition, short syntheses with 1-2 steps, simple NMR techniques, and basic purification methods can be included.

Eligibility requirements: The applicant should have basic knowledge of computational and organic chemistry as well as laboratory experience. Previous experience in organic synthesis is considered a plus, but not required.

Topic: Anti-Inflammatory coumarin derivatives for treatment of chronic inflammation

Description: The research of anti-inflammatory coumarins aims to find novel series of coumarin-based compounds for the treatment of inflammation-derived diseases such as asthma, rheumatoid disorders, and certain neurodegenerative diseases. The project collaborates with the School of Biomedicine in University of Eastern Finland and partially with the School of Medicine in Tampere University. The project contains short syntheses with 1-4 steps, simple NMR techniques, and basic purification methods.

Eligibility requirements: The applicant should have basic knowledge of organic chemistry and laboratory experience. Previous experience in organic synthesis is considered a plus, but not required.
